Breast cancer is a disease in which malignant (cancer) cells form in the tissues of the breast. This year it is estimated that nearly 200,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer, and more than 40,000 will die. Breast cancer is not exclusively a disease of women, however. Approximately 1,700 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer and 450 will die each year.
The “cool it” Core Cause Campaign created by PickYourCause.com is intended to help raise money for research, education and support used in the fight against global warming. PickYourCause.com will contribute a portion of the sale proceeds ($2 from the sale of every PYC offering) from this piece to its charitable partners.
The atmosphere is thin enough that its composition can be changed. Many of the mountain glaciers of the world are now melting, many of them rapidly. The polar ice cap is melting. The habitats of millions, perhaps billions, of people may be damaged.
MAKE IT MATTER AFRICA
The “Make it Matter Africa” Core Cause Campaign created by PickYourCause.com is intended to help raise money primarily for children and families in Africa who need help feeding their families or providing the basic necessities of life for their children. PickYourCause.com will contribute a portion of the sale proceeds ($2 from the sale of every PYC offering) from this piece to its charitable partner World Vision.
Who we serve
World Vision helps transform the lives of the world’s poorest children and families in nearly 100 countries, including the United States. Our non-profit work extends assistance to all people, regardless of their religious beliefs, gender, race, or ethnic background.
Why we serve
World Vision is a Christian relief and development organization dedicated to helping children and their communities worldwide reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty.
How we serve
Relationships are the starting point and the end goal of World Vision’s work. Through relationships with community leaders, World Vision’s staff help communities set goals that families can achieve by working together. By our demonstration of God’s love through our work, we hope that people will experience life in all its fullness.
Who are the people?
The Democratic Republic of Congo, formerly known as Zaire, is made up of more than 200 ethnic groups. The country’s official language is French, but 80 percent of the population speaks at least one of many other ethnic languages.
More than 70 percent of the population lives in rural areas. Many Congolese laborers work on farms, producing cassava, corn, bananas, rice, coffee, tea, palm oil, rubber, and cotton. These crops are used for both subsistence and export. World Vision is working alongside many farmers to teach them new agricultural techniques that will increase harvests and help them better provide for their children.
Forty-eight percent of Congolese children have no access to schools or education of any sort. Many of them work on farms, or anywhere else they can find work to help generate an income for their families. Some children have been kidnapped and enslaved by rebel soldiers fighting in civil war skirmishes throughout the country. Through child sponsorship, World Vision is working to provide clothing and school supplies that will enable more boys and girls to attend school and complete their education.
Nearly 2 million children lack proper nutrition and three-fourths of Congolese people are undernourished, struggling to survive on an inadequate food supply.

What is it like to live there?
The Congolese people enjoy beautiful landscapes consisting of mountain ranges with volcanoes, lush tropical forests, rivers, and hundreds of lakes. With all these natural resources, the country could be one of the richest countries in southern Africa. However, due to government instability, the economy has suffered drastic decline since the mid-1980s.
The nation has a history of conflict and strife. In the late 19th century, King Leopold I of Belgium established the first colony in the region, calling it The Congo Free State. This name was changed to The Belgian Congo in 1908, and then again to The Republic of the Congo after the country gained independence in 1960. It became known as Zaire when a dictator, Mobutu Sese Seko, assumed control in 1971. Upon his defeat by rebels in 1997 the country’s official name became The Democratic Republic of Congo. Rebel forces still occupy parts of the country today.
For the last several years the population of the DRC has fluctuated due to political conflicts and ethnic cleansing in neighboring countries.
Your sponsorship is helping to ensure that children and families have access to food production assistance, medical care, clean water, and education, as well as biblically-based HIV prevention techniques and care and support for children orphaned or made vulnerable by AIDS.

More than 12 million children in the U.S. suffer from hunger, more than 3 million chronically.
As many as 1 in 5 American children go to bed hungry.
Around the world, 30,000 children die each day from hunger and other preventable illnesses.
Hunger and malnutrition are the underlying causes of more than one-half of all child deaths.
Hungry children are more likely to get sick, and hunger makes it harder for children to concentrate and perform well in school.
Feed The Children is a Christian, international, nonprofit relief organization with headquarters in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, that delivers food, medicine, clothing and other necessities to individuals, children and families who lack these essentials due to famine, war, poverty, or natural disaster.
What We Do
During our 28-year history, Feed The Children has grown into one of the world's largest private organizations dedicated to helping hungry and hurting people. Last year, Feed The Children shipped 129 million pounds of food and other essentials to children and families in all 50 states and in 43 foreign countries, supplementing more than 730,000 meals a day worldwide. Since our founding in 1979, Feed The Children has reached out to help children and families in 118 countries around the globe.
U.S. Programs
The heart of Feed The Children's U.S. program is distributing food to families in need. To do this, we work closely with caring corporate partners that donate surplus food and other supplies, as well as with individual donors who help defray the cost of transporting the product donations.
Feed The Children's wholly-owned subsidiary, FTC Transportation, Inc., picks up in-kind contributions from corporate warehouses and brings them to one of six Feed The Children regional distribution centers. Some of the donations are then distributed in bulk and others are processed into individual relief boxes.

International Outreach
Feed The Children's international programs focus on providing food, medical assistance, emergency relief, and creating sustainable development.
Since 1979, we have provided food, clothing, medical assistance, and educational opportunities to those in need in more than 118 nations around the world. Through schools, orphanages and church-related programs, Feed The Children touches the lives of millions of children. We also provide assistance to orphanages, schools, and other charitable groups in these regions.
A key goal is to help families in need move past needing help and into becoming self-sufficient members of their community. Through long-term, self-help development programs funded by grants and individual donors, thousands of families in countries around the world have increased their ability to be self-sufficient by learning and applying new, marketable skills. Find out how you can be a part of the solution to the problem of child hunger around the world.
Once winter strikes, parents getting by on threadbare budgets must make a painful decision – heat their home or feed their children.
For more and more families, there's just not enough money for both.
Winter is the most punishing season for the working poor and their children.
| » |
The subprime mortgage disaster is doing immeasurable damage to poor working parents
|
| » |
Milk prices are at record highs |
| » |
Home heating costs are beating down parents struggling to raise their children in substandard, drafty housing that gets icy COLD in the winter |
Feed The Children doesn't provide heat... but we can make sure poor children have food on the table to eat!
It takes just $7 to send 50 pounds of shelf stable nutritious food to a family who will need our help this winter. That's enough to feed a family of 4 for 2 entire weeks!
When you help provide food for the children... more families will be able to heat their homes when the cold winds blow and the thermometer heads toward zero.
Helping hungry children and their families by focusing on good stewardship and transparency
